WEDNESDAY MORNING'S BIG STORIES

1- Vincent Kompany proud of City's stalemate but adamant job is far from over

Manchester City captain Vincent Kompany believes City's nil all draw with Real Madrid in the Champions League semi last night was a good performance, but finds the battle for a place in the final "too close to call". The comments come after City managed to hold out a Cristiano Ronaldo-less Madrid team that failed to get an away goal, which would have put them in good stead ahead of the second leg.

"It is too close to call at the moment - 0-0 is a very dangerous scoreline", the City centre-half said after the match.
"From the moment we manage to score in Madrid, it will be very different. It is hard to keep a clean sheet against such an attacking team. We can be proud of what we have achieved in this first leg."
Kompany was tasked with shutting down Madrid's focal point in Ronaldo's absence, Gareth Bale. The Welshman struggled for clear cut opportunities as City put in a rare 90 minute performance of total defensive discipline. City were also starved of chances during the match, as David Silva was substituted due to injury before half-time and Sergio Aguero was given little opportunities either.

2- World reacts to Hillsborough jury finding as fight for justice ends

Family members, sport stars, celebrities, world leaders and people the world over welcomed the findings of the Hillsborough inquest jury, as they concluded the 96 Liverpool fans who died in the disaster were unlawfully killed.

British Prime Minister David Cameron tweeted: "I would like to pay tribute to the extraordinary courage of #Hillsborough campaigners in their long search for the truth", while the Chief Constable of South Yorkshire Police, David Crompton, said the police "unequivocally accept" the findings.
Current and former footballers such as Wayne Rooney and Jamie Carragher expressed support for the findings on Twitter, while former Liverpool manager Rafael Benitez said in a statement he was "especially pleased for the families of the 96 who sought justice for so long and with such dignity".

3- World Championship - Ding through to semi final after huge victory over Williams

Ding Junhui went through to the semi-finals of the World Championship in style, after obliterating Mark Williams 13-2 inside two sessions.

Ding was the first through to the semi finals, scoring at least a half-century in every frame he won. Ding at the end of the first session had a lead of 6-2, before extending it to an unbeaten position of 10-2.
The 29 year old last reached the semi-final in 2011, but had to qualify for this year's tournament after his world ranking had dropped to 17th.
