‘Chasing History’ goes behind-the-scenes with the most successful downhill skier of all time, as she pursues her professional dreams of breaking the number of FIS World Cup wins and becoming a four-time Olympian.
The opening episodes capture the agony of Lindsey’s training crash on Copper Mountain in November 2016, which resulted in a severely fractured bone in her right arm. Viewers will see Vonn’s recovery from surgery, rehabilitation and return to the slopes with exclusive footage bringing fans closer to the winter sports icon than ever before.
Lindsey Vonn said:
When we announced this project in October I promised to give Eurosport and its viewers unique access to my life – on and off the slopes. I knew there'd be challenges along the way, but I didn’t expect to face such a huge one right off the bat, breaking my arm as soon as the cameras started rolling. In the opening episodes fans will see my recovery and determination to get back on the slopes, as Eurosport follow me every step of the way.
“For me injuries are part of being a professional athlete, you never know what will happen. I am used to set-backs and overcoming them but this has been the toughest one yet. It’s been frustrating but now I’m back and focused on my goals – breaking the overall World Cup win record and competing at the next Olympics. Eurosport has covered my professional career from day one and I’m thrilled that their viewers will get an unprecedented insight into my l life as I continue to chase history.”
The first two 30-minute episodes of the series, narrated by the former Olympic Champion herself, will be broadcast back-to-back from 6pm on February 5. The episodes chart Vonn’s return to competitive action at Alternmarkt-Zauchensee, where she finished 13th in the downhill last Sunday, followed by her progress at Garmisch Partenkirchen and Cortina d'Ampezzo, where she famously broke Anne Moser-Pröll's World Cup record with her 37th downhill victory last year.
Chasing History will air on all Eurosport channels and platforms, including the Eurosport Player – the Eurosport subscription service that gives fans the chance to enjoy exclusive content LIVE and on demand.
Eurosport, the new Home of the Olympics in Europe, announced the collaboration with Vonn in October 2016 with the aim of producing an all-encompassing series showing fans how she relaxes away from the slopes at home with family and friends, her own personal passions, as well being given the opportunity to delve deep into the mindset of an elite athlete striving for sporting immortality.
Peter Hutton, CEO of Eurosport, added:
Lindsey is a genuine global superstar who throughout her career has proved herself to be not only a trailblazer, but also a role model for millions across the world. Viewers will see exactly why this is the case in the first two episodes of Chasing History on February 5 as she deals with adversity in the way that only champions can. Across all Eurosport platforms, fans will get a unique insight into how this world-class athlete trains, prepares and deals with the challenges she faces as she ‘chases history’.
