The 23-year-old Swiss followed in the footsteps of Egon Zimmermann nearly 50 years after his compatriot received the same Serge Lang Trophy.
Hirscher beat the likes of Didier Cuche, Lindsey Vonn and Beat Feuz to the award following his brilliant exploits in the 2011-12 season.
He has stepped on the World Cup podium a total of 27 times in giant slalom, slalom, Super-G or combined, including 12 victories since December 2009.
The new season gets under way this weekend in Soelden.
