Just 13 months after breaking two vertebrae on the slopes, Matthias Mayer got back to winning ways in the men's Super G in Kitzbuehel, on Friday.
The Austrian clocked a total time of 1:11.25 to top the podium on home snow, ahead of Italy's Christof Innerhofer who placed second, 0.09s back.
The final spot on the podium was taken by Switzerland's Beat Feuz, who narrowly edged out Aleksander Aamodt Kilde to third place in what was the final Super G before next month's World Championships.
"When I returned this season, the crash was still in my head," he said.
"I didn't dare to race to the fullest. I was happy to be back but I wasn't racing.
"Today was the first time that those thoughts were not there. It's a huge step forward for me."
The victory sees Mayer go fourth in the Super G standings, with Innerhofer and Feuz sitting eighth and sixth, respectively.
Norway's Kjetil Jansrud continues to lead the way on 329 points, with Italy's Dominik Paris in second.
