Teenage alpine skier Max Burkhart dies in crash

German skier Max Burkhart has died following a crash on a training run in Lake Louise, Canada.

Burkhart, 17, was preparing for the Nor-Am Cup at the ski resort but suffered a horrendous incident on December 5 when he crashed into safety netting.
According to the Calgary Herald, medics “worked for nearly 30 minutes to stabilize the youth before he was airlifted to Foothills Hospital in Calgary in a serious, life-threatening condition.”
But Burkhart died on December 6, with his the news being confirmed the following day.
A statement from Alpine Canada said:
Alpine Canada and Alberta Alpine are devastated about this tragic loss of life and sends its deepest condolences to his family and team-mates. Alpine Canada and Alberta Alpine encourage the ski family around the world to support the athletes’ family and team-mate through this difficult time.
Burkhart’s death comes just weeks after French alpine skier David Poisson was killed during a training run in Nakiska.
FIS, the international ski federation, said in a statement:
The FIS alpine family is once again affected by a tragic loss. Max Burkhart passed away yesterday in Canada, after a crash in the Nor-Am Cup race at Lake Louise. The 17-year-old was a member of Ski Club Partenkirchen in Germany and attended Sugar Bowl Academy in California. FIS expresses its sincere condolences to his family, his team-mates and his loved ones.
