Mo Farah excited for new beginning

Mo Farah says he can’t wait to end his track career and switch to road running, as he prepares for one final UK race at the Diamond League in Birmingham tomorrow.

The 34-year-old has dominated the 5,000 and 10,000 metres for five years, winning four Olympic titles and six world championship golds.

Now Farah is bidding farewell to the track to concentrate on marathons, and he admits it will take him some time to get up to speed – but is looking forward to the pressure being off.

"I'm definitely more relaxed, more chilled, I don't have a target on my back. It's going to be different but I'm excited,” he said.

"People expect me to do certain things in the marathon because I have won so much stuff on the track, but it is a completely different event.

I want to go in with a new mind and vision, forget about what I have achieved as Mo and learn and understand the event and see what I can do on the road.

"It will take me a couple of times at least to get it right."

Farah still has the Zurich Diamond League and the Great North Run to focus on this season, but before that he wants to sign off in style in Birmingham.

"This weekend is about enjoyment. I'll go out there and give 110%, but it is not as demanding or nerve-racking as London (2017)," he added.

"I want to take care of the race, get a good result and say goodbye."
