Laura Muir beats Olympic champion, breaks 1500m British record

One week after Rio, Laura Muir beat Olympic champion Kenya's Faith Kipyegon in Paris's Diamond League meet - and broke the British record for the 1500m.

Muir finished a disappointing seventh in the Olympic final - but she rebounded brilliantly to record a stunning time of 3:55.22 in Paris.

And she did it in style.

Unsurprisingly, her achievement was met with delight and congratulations across the athletics world.

Muir was the previous record-holder, running 3:57.49 in July to break Dame Kelly Holmes's time of 3:57.90, set in Athens 2004.
