Paula Radcliffe: Dopers should face criminal sanctions

London Marathon champion and Olympic gold medallist Jemima Sumgong tested positive for EPO in a out-of-competition test.

Sumgong is the latest Kenyan athlete to have been caught, and she will be unable to defend her London Marathon title later this month.

Radcliffe, the marathon world record holder, suggests dopers should pay damages to race organisers for dragging their event through the mud.

"Obviously it's not great news for the sport, but I prefer to look on it as actually very good news in that cheats are getting caught more now," said Radcliffe.

"I do advocate making doping a criminal offence, so that you can face criminal sanctions for doping, for supply of doping and for managers and the entourage who encourage and facilitate it.

"It makes it much easier then to track by using agencies such as the FBI, customs agencies, and it makes it far easier to raid athletes' houses and be able to search when you have strong suspicions."
