Mason, a high jump silver medallist for Team GB at the 2008 Beijing Olympics, died in a car crash earlier this week and Britain's 4x100m team wore black ribbons in his honour on Saturday.
The squad, of Chijindu Ujah, Zharnel Hughes, Danny Talbot, Adam Gemili and Ojie Edoburun qualified for the 4x100m final by easing to victory in their heat – but were disqualified in the final after debutant Edoburun went off too early.
Elsewhere, the men's 4x400m squad qualified for Sunday's final while their female counterparts also did the same.
And for 400m runner Jarryd Dunn, the day was about honouring Mason.
"It's our way of paying respect to a fellow British athlete," he said.
While Edoburun was disappointed after wasting an opportunity for a medal after Ujah, Hughes and Talbot had put Britain in a strong position.
"I can't lie, I'm really disappointed," he said.
"It's not a nice feeling, but it's about the bigger picture and while it's unfortunate to have to happen like this today, we will get it right when it counts in London."
