Steph Curry shuts down sportswear CEO with withering reply over Donald Trump

The Golden State Warriors guard in no stranger to political issues, and when he heard of Plank describe Trump as ‘real asset to the country’, he could not resist a withering putdown.

“I agree with that description, if you remove the ‘et’,” said Curry in an interview with CNBC.

The 28-year-old is one of Under Armour’s highest-paid stars and said he was surprised at Plank’s comments, revealing he had spent most of Tuesday speaking to representatives of the company ‘trying to understand what was going on and where everybody stood on the issue’.

Under Armour later released a statement in an effort to clarify its chief executive’s remarks following a backlash on Twitter. The statement said Plank’s comments were about Trump’s business policies alone, not his social viewpoints.

“We engage in policy, not politics,” it read. “We believe in advocating for fair trade, an inclusive immigration policy that welcomes the best and the brightest and those seeking opportunity in the great tradition of our country, and tax reform that drives hiring to help create new jobs globally, across America and in Baltimore (where the company's HQ is based).”
