Germany biathlete Simon Schempp secured his first ever World Championship medal in style, bringing home the gold in the men’s mass start.
Schempp shot clean to take home the gold after taking control of the contest in the last loop, finishing in 35:38.3 in Hochfilzen, Austria.
Defending mass start gold medallist Johannes Thingnes Boe scooped silver, with one penalty, nine seconds behind the German. Austria's Simon Eder also shot clean to claim the bronze, 10.1 seconds back.
"This was my last chance; it is amazing to get this title in the mass start," Schempp said.
"The previous days have not been so easy explaining every day in the mixed zone why I did not win a medal. Today was much easier.
"After the last shooting, I was sure I could win. I felt good on the tracks and gave all I had on the uphill. Today was my perfect race."
Boe added: "I felt really good after 15-for-15. I was just laying back and saving power for the last loop.
"When I missed that shot in the last standing, I thought the medal was lost.
"I pushed hard and used all of my energy. That last lap was quite hard…I am really satisfied."
Russian Anton Shipulin led in the early stages, but ended up finishing fourth, 25.3 seconds adrift. Martin Fourcade of France finished fifth.
