Steven Holcomb rolled back the years as he and teammate Carlo Valdes edged to victory by a tenth of a second in the Bobsleigh World Cup at Lake Placid, America.
American driver Holcomb, who finished 2013-14 atop the World Cup standings in both the two-man and four-man categories, had not won a medal of any kind since he picked up a pair of bronze medals at the Winter Olympics two years ago.
But together with Valdes, the 35-year-old completed a near flawless second run in the two-man bob to leapfrog Germain pairing Nico Walther and Christian Poser into first place.
Their combined time of 1:51minutes ended Germany's early-season domination, with Francesco Friedrich and Thorsten Margis having picked up three victories in a row.
Friedrich and Margis finished in eighth, some four tenth of a seconds back on Holcomb, though fellow German Walther built on his bronze in Konigssee with a second-place finish.
South Korea's Won Yun-jong and Seo Young-Woo had to settle for a third bronze of the season after Walter and Poser shaded their time of 1:51.12 by one hundredth of a second.
