Two-time Olympic champion Kaillie Humphries kicked off the women’s bobsleigh World Cup season in style with victory in Altenberg, Germany.
Canadian Humphries, along with brakewoman Melissa Lotholz, finished their two runs in a combined time of 1:53.67 minutes, shaving 0.002 seconds off Humphries’ six-year-old track record.
It was the 14th World Cup victory for Humphries, but her first with Lotholz as she climbed the World Cup podium for the 30th time in her career.
While Humphries and Lotholz produced the fastest first and second runs, a spot on the podium looked difficult for Belgian duo Elfje Willemsen and Sophie Vercruyssen as they sat fourth after their initial attempt.
But a run of 57.10 seconds saw them finish second with a total time of 1:54.41 minutes.
And completing the podium were Americans Jamie Greubel Poser and Lauren Gibbs as they came home in 1:54.72, jumping up from seventh place after their first run.
