The 33-year-old, who claimed the two-man World Cup crown in 2009, joined forces with Thomas Lamparter to finish 0.12 seconds ahead of Thomas Florschutz and brakeman Kevin Kuske of Germany.
Steven Holcomb, the Olympic champion in the four-man event, and brakeman Justin Olsen came home in third, 0.18 back.
The result leaves Hefti at the top of the World Cup standings on 225 points with Florschutz second on 210 and Holcomb third on 200.
And after making the perfect start to the new campaign, Hefti admitted he’s been given a helping hand to the top of the standings.
“There was a bit of luck at my victory here in Igls, but with Thomas I also have a fantastic brakeman,” he said
“This was only the first race of the season and every race is different. I don’t look much more ahead now.”
