An international cricketer has been suspended from all forms of the game amid allegations he and his wife assaulted a child who was working as a maid for them.

"The allegations against Shahadat Hossain have tarnished our image," Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) spokesman Jalal Yunus is quoted as saying to the news agency Agency France Presse.
"We've therefore decided to temporarily suspend him from all sorts of cricket being organised by the BCB," said Yunus while adding the BCB had strongly opposed the abuse of children and women, and using minors for labour.
Police are apparently still searching for the pace bowler Shahadat, 29, who has apparently gone into hiding and is on the run from the authorities amid claims he beat an 11-year-old maid who is having treatment in hospital.
Shahadat has played 38 Tests and 51 one-day international matches for his country. He will miss two Test against Australia next month.
Police raided his house after finding the maid on the streets of the capital Dhaka, but have yet to make an arrest. The child was taken to hospital frail and with black eyes, and is receiving treatment from doctors.
