Hamilton Masakadza's run-a-ball 110 was the mainstay of Zimbabwe's 248 all out, Peter Moor and Richmond Mutumbami adding 42 and 40 respectively as Amir Hamza took three wickets for 41 runs.
Afghanistan, 'hosting' the match on the neutral territory of Sharjah, lost wickets with regularity and looked down and out at 146 for six.
Naib and Rashid Khan put on 85 but Neville Madziva removed Khan, for 31, and Mirwais Ashraf in the space of three balls.
Ten were needed off the last over but a Madziva wide and a Naib boundary eased the pressure. Naib celebrated prematurely after a two took his side level, but lifted the next ball for his sixth six to finish on 82 not out from 68 balls.
