Harvey holds off rivals to claim mass start title as Brit Musgrave impresses
Canadian Alex Harvey timed his surge to the finish line to perfection as he claimed the men's 50km mass start title in the final race of the Nordic World Ski Championships.
With two kilometres to go Norwegian Martin Johnsrud Sundby looked to finally break away from the bunch to bring the curtain down in style.
But Harvey didn't let him escape and after breezing past Sundby going into the final bend he held off the challenge of Russian Serget Ustiugov to claim his first individual world title in 1:46:28.9 hours.
In the end Ustiugov had to settle for silver as he was just six tenths of a second behind Harvey, while bronze went to Matti Heikkinen of Finland with a time of 1:46:30.3.
And in the end Sundby crossed the line in fifth as Great Britain’s Andrew Musgrave came home an impressive fourth in 1:46.31.8.
