Latvia continue emphatic start to World Mixed Doubles Curling Championships

Monday's action started with dominant wins for both the USA and the hosts, with the former recording a 13-3 triumph over Turkey while Canada defeated Kazakhstan 14-0.

The first session of the day also saw victories for the Czech Republic - who continue to lead Group D tied on four wins with the USA - as well as Germany and Estonia.

In the second session, Latvia took to the ice to breeze past Brazil 11-3, while Russia also hit double figures with a 13-2 win over Romania.

Norway narrowly defeated Italy while New Zealand beat Slovakia 8-3, with Spain also triumphing 6-5 against Slovenia.

Irantzu Garcia, one half of the Spanish pairing, said: "We really knew we had to win that to go to the playoffs, which is our goal."

Into the afternoon session and Scotland recorded a 8-5 win over Ireland to continue their lead at the top of the Group B table.

Elsewhere, France scored the winning point in the extra end to seal a 10-9 victory over Turkey, while both the USA and Wales required just seven ends to prevail over Germany and Denmark respectively. There was a comfortable win for China too, running out 14-2 victors against the Netherlands.

The 13th session of the Championships saw Latvia once again hit double figures against Finland, winning 10-7, while Japan's game against Croatia was ended prematurely as they won 11-2.

Wins also came for Hungary, Poland and the Czech Republic, before Bulgaria and Sweden triumphed in the final session of the day, beating Serbia and Israel 12-1 and 14-3 respectively.

Bulgaria's Reto Seiler said: "Finally we are in the mix. We were more precise with our draw weight and we feel comfortable, which we didn’t feel in the first two games. It was not a piece of cake tonight."

Monday's action saw Latvia, Scotland and Korea top their respective groups, with Czech Republic and USA battling it out in a two horse race at the top of Group D and Switzerland leading the way in Group E.
