In the end it came down to Scotland's final stone of the tenth end entering at the wrong angle and leaving two Swiss stones counting in the house.
This gave Swiss skip Peter De Cruz and his team a score of two points and a 6-5 win, without having to play their final stone.
The result leaves Switzerland joint second along with Sweden, who beat Italy 8-2 after just six ends, mainly thanks to scores of three points and four in the second and fourth ends respectively.
There was an important win for America as they beat Norway 9-3 to move into a four-way tie for fifth place, along with their opponents.
