Levy caps dominant week with Six Day Berlin sprinters' crown

Four-time World Champion Maximilian Levy did not let a small thing like a broken collar bone get in the way of a dominant performance at Six Day Berlin, as he took the sprinters competition by nine points from compatriot Robert Forstemann.

Levy suffered the injury just two weeks ago, but rode through the pain barrier to dominate all week, setting the fastest 250m flying lap time on four of the six days.
European keirin champion Tomas Babek finished third in the standings, 20 points back on Forstemann, with Germany's Joachim Eilers just missing out on a podium spot, finishing two points behind the Czech man.
The order of the week continued on Day 6 with Forstemann and Levy setting the fastest times in the 250m flying lap time trial.
But it was Forstemann that went fastest, clocking 12.642s to beat his compatriot by 0.052s, with Babek in third and Rene Enders fourth.
In a change to the regular schedule, the keirin came next, with reigning world champion Eilers capping his week by taking his second win in the event.
The German just held off a strong challenge from Babek, just doing enough to cross the line first, with Forstemann in third and Levy fourth.
So with an unassailable lead in the standings, Levy went into the match sprint finals knowing he had already claimed the Six Day Berlin title and went on to prove his dominance with a powerful win over Forstemann in the A final.
The finals started with double Olympic champion Philip Hindes beating Eilers and Nate Koch to the line in the C race, with Enders beating Babek in the B final.
And so the stage was set for the A final, and it did not disappoint; the German powerhouses going wheel to wheel around the final corner, with Levy eventually making the line first to put the gloss on a fine week in Berlin.
