The cycling world paid tribute to Michele Scarponi on Saturday after the Italian was killed in a road accident aged 37.

The 2011 Giro d’Italia champion was struck by a van during a training ride in central Italy, just two weeks before the 100th edition of his home Grand Tour.
His team Astana said his death was "a tragedy too big to be written".
Mark Cavendish called Scarponi "one of the nicest guys you could ever meet" as a flood of messages were posted on social media:
