Mark Cavendish claims opener at Tour of Turkey

Britain's Mark Cavendish enjoyed a perfect start to the Tour of Turkey as he claimed victory ahead of Caleb Ewan.

Mark Cavendish (Etixx - Quick Step) won Stage 1 of the Presidential Cycling Tour of Turkey, Alanya - Alanya (145 km)

Cavendish was the hot favourite to win the stage and after a superb lead-out from his Etixx QuickStep team-mates he edged home in front by a matter of mere inches from the Australian, with Nicola Ruffoni third.

The win in the stage, a 145km loop that started and finished in Alanya, was the 126th victory of Cavendish's career.
