British divers Tom Daley and Dan Goodfellow missed out on a medal at the World Championships in Budapest on Monday.
Daley and Goodfellow bagged bronze as a pair at the Rio Olympics last year, but have enjoyed limited training time due to injuries in 2017.
And a disappointing fifth dive saw the British duo miss out on a medal, with China, Russia and Germany making up the top three.
"I'm not too disappointed," Daley said after the final. "We haven't trained together since the last World Series event and we only missed one of the 12 dives over the course of the day, so there's lots of positives to take.
"I've had quite a bit of injury problems and haven't been able to do the volume from 10m. I'm just looking forward to getting back into the gym and getting fit again."
Even if Daley and Goodfellow had been on top form they would still have been trailing in the wake of the remarkable Chinese pair of Chen Aisen and Yang Hao, who fell marginally short of a world-record score after six near-faultless dives.
Earlier in the day the British pair of Grace Reid and Katherine Torrance produced an unexpectedly impressive showing in the 3m synchro, finishing fifth in the world despite having dived together for just six months.
"We're absolutely over the moon," Reid said. "We're a like-minded, very competitive pair and give it our all every day which showed in that performance."
China also dominated that event, with Shi Tingmao and Chang Yani securing the nation's ninth straight title.
