The Royal Windsor Horse Show, this weekend in England, truly lives up to its name, taking place on the private grounds of Windsor Castle, Europe’s longest-occupied castle and a principal residence of the British Royal Family.
The competition, which runs from May 10-14, first started in 1943 to raise funds for the war effort. This year it is welcoming for the first time 5* International Show Jumping, as well as 4* International Dressage, an International Driving Grand Prix, 2* Endurance and National competitions.
For the elite level Show Jumping, many of the world’s best riders are at Windsor this year, including defending champion and World No.1 Kent Farrington of the United States. He will be joined by long-time rivals like Canada’s Eric Lamaze, currently fourth in the world, Italy’s Lorenzo de Luca, 6th, and a strong British squad on home soil made up of Scott Brash (10th) and others, plus Irish riders like the young phenom Bertram Allen (15th).
