After competing over several days with his 17-year-old mount Nereo in the different Olympic disciplines of dressage, cross-country and show jumping, Nicholson topped Eventing World No.1 Michael Jung of Germany at this year’s edition of the competition, with Jung and his well-known partner La Biosthetique Sam FBW finishing in 2nd place. Nicholson’s compatriot Tim Price took third on Xavier Faer. The highest-placing rider from Great Britain at Badminton 2017 was Rosalind Canter, riding AllStar B, in fifth. Fellow Brit Gemma Tattersall and her mount Arctic Soul were seventh — in fact, New Zealand and British riders took six of the top seven spots, with Japan’s Yoshiaki Oiwa in eighth.
After his win, Andrew Nicholson said: ”I have imagined winning, but actually it feels even better than that now I have done it.”
