Sloothaak wins Longines Grand Prix at final leg of the 2015 China Tour

The 2015 Longines China Tour came to a close at the weekend in Guangzhou, China and it was Germany’s Frank Sloothaak who emerged the winner of the highlight class of the event, the Longines Grand Prix.

Riding Newtime de Baussy, Sloothaak produced two excellent clear rounds to go to the top of the podium. Ukraine’s Ulrich Kirchhoff on Petrocelli took second place followed by China’s Liu Tongyan on Ku Bu Qi.
A field of 24 horse and rider combinations came forward for the Longines Grand Prix, of which only eight qualified for the final jump-off round.
Five of the eight combinations then rode double clear rounds but it was Sloothaak’s effort in a time of 36.04 seconds which proved decisive.
Kirchhoff came home in 36.89 seconds ahead of Tongyan’s time of 37.66 seconds.
China’s Zhang Rui took fourth place with a clear round in 41.77 whilst compatriot Li Yaofeng earned fifth place also with a clear round but in 46.27 seconds.
The Netherlands' Jeroen Dubbeldam was the fastest of the four-faulters to take sixth place, with China’s Zhao Zhiwen (Daniel) claiming seventh and Hong Kong’s Patrick Lam – with eighth faults, taking eighth place.
With the 2015 Longines China Tour now concluded, the final standings has Zhao Zhiwen (Daniel) on top with 43 points – and qualified for the Longines FEI World Cup Final 2016 in Gothenburg, Sweden next March , closely followed by Lam in second with 40 points.
Liu Tongyan’s third place finish in Guangzhou moved her up to third place on the overall standings with 36 points, ahead of Hong Kong’s Raena Leung in fourth on 34 points.
