Italy’s leading rally driver, Paolo Andreucci, has spoken of his delight that the FIA European Rally Championship is returning to the country next year.
Rally di Roma Capitale will form the penultimate event of the 2017 ERC season from 15-17 September. And Andreucci, a former winner of Rallye Sanremo, the last Italian event to form part of the ERC schedule, can’t wait.

“It’s fantastic news that Italy is back in the European championship,” said Andreucci, who drives for Peugeot Italia and is a nine-time Italian champion. “It’s a great competition and my only regret is that I never had the opportunity to contest the full championship myself: that is something I would still love to do.

“The ERC arriving in Rome is something that all of us Italian drivers will benefit from, because the impact and coverage of the championship now is much bigger than it used to be. So I’m very happy that the ERC is finally returning to Italy.”

Andreucci is also a three-time winner of another well-known former ERC round, the Costa Smeralda Rally in Sardinia.
