Eighteen-year-old British driver Catie Munnings doubled her improvement on the FIA European Rally Championship’s Rally Liepāja last weekend compared to her debut in Ypres – so it’s mission accomplished for the ERC Junior Experience graduate.
“To gauge our pace and improvement we calculate our times per kilometre against the fastest ERC Junior on the stages,” explained Munnings. “In Ypres, our first ERC rally, we got that down to around 10 seconds per kilometre slower, On Saturday in Latvia we were around seven seconds slower and then on Sunday morning we got that down to 5.8 seconds, without feeling like we were out of our comfort zone.”
Not only that, but she now leads the ERC Ladies’ Trophy: a huge boost to her confidence.
“I think the ERC is such a fabulous championship, everyone is really helpful and all of the events are incredible,” added Munnings. “We always wanted to do a professional championship and our decision to jump straight in has meant it's been a steep learning curve, but I firmly believe I have learned more in the ERC Junior Experience and the two rallies I've done this year than I ever could have done in a full year or more of taking a more conventional route into rallying.”
