ERC drivers Della Casa and Costenaro swap Latvia for Italy

Federico Della Casa from Switzerland and Italy’s Giacomo Costenaro may have been forced to miss out on the opening round of the FIA European Rally Championship in Latvia after it was postponed – but they showed their speed on the Ronde Terra del Friuli in Italy last weekend instead.

Driving a Citroën DS3 R5, the Italian-speaking Della Casa claimed the overall win on the all-gravel event, having fought hard with Costenaro, who was putting his new Peugeot 208 T16 through its paces.
Costenaro claimed an early lead, but his rally came to an end when he slid off into a ditch in rainy conditions.
“As we should have been in Latvia this weekend, we decided to do this event instead as a test,” said Della Casa (pictured). “It was a good rally and we had a lot of fun despite the rain.”
Costenaro and Della Casa will both chase ERC points in 2016 and will also be eligible for the attractive round-by-round prize money having registered for the 10-event championship.
