A number of drivers with FIA European Rally Championship experience will be in action when Rallye Monte-Carlo gets underway this evening.
Former ERC champions Giandomenico Basso, Juho Hänninen, Jan Kopecký, Armin Kremer and Esapekka Lappi, ex-ERC Junior title holders Emil Bergkvist and Stéphane Lefebvre (pictured), plus ERC event winners Bryan Bouffier, Craig Breen, Andreas Mikkelsen, Thierry Neuville and Ott Tänak are all entered for the world championship season opener.

A number of other Rallye Monte-Carlo participants have ERC event experience. They include: Kevin Abbring, Cédric Althaus, Fabio Andolfi, Ondrej Bisaha, Eamonn Boland, Yoann Bonato, Olivier Burri, Eric Camilli, Andrea Crugnola, François Delecour, Romain Dumas, Elfyn Evans, Quentin Gilbert, Quentin Giordano, Jari-Matti Latvala, Charles Martin, Gabriele Noberasco, Hayden Paddon, Jourdan Serderidis and Simone Tempestini.

In total, 11 drivers with factory support competing on Rallye Monte-Carlo have gained valuable knowledge, experience and exposure competing in the ERC, the recognised stepping stone to the WRC.

Meanwhile, this season’s ERC gets underway with the Azores Airlines Rallye from 30 March-1 April. The winner of the ERC Junior U28 Championship, which begins on the spectacular gravel event in the mid-Atlantic, gets a drive on a European round of the 2017 WRC in a 2016-specification World Rally Car as their prize.
