The FIA European Rally Championship’s key role of helping promising drivers climb to the top of the sport was underlined when ERC Junior graduate Andrea Crugnola scored category points on his world championship debut in a four-wheel-drive car on Rallye Monte-Carlo last week.
Crugnola narrowly lost out to Stéphane Lefebvre in a thrilling battle for ERC Junior title glory in 2014 and has since gone on to forge a career in the world championship’s supporting classes.

On the recent Rallye Monte-Carlo he placed seventh in class and finished as the top Italian. He was also the fastest Ford Fiesta R5 driver on stages 14 and 15.

“Overall it has been a tough event for us, especially in the first and second leg when the special stages were mainly covered by ice and snow,” said Crugnola. “We suffered with our lack of experience with the car and tyres in those conditions. However, we reached our aims to be at the end of the rally and took some points for the championship. I’m really happy about our Sunday morning performances and this experience will make us stronger and faster in the next events. I’m quite positive for the future.”
