The Russian teenager was delivering another impressive performance in the FIA European Rally Championship, holding third overall and leading the ERC Junior Under 28 category when he suffered a heavy crash on the first stage of leg two, which left his Sports Racing Technologies ŠKODA Fabia R5 with extensive damage.

“I don’t know if it was a mistake with my driving but it was really slippery on a right corner, we slide wide, crashed and rolled,” said Gryazin. “The car has quite bad damage but I think the roll cage is okay.”

While Gryazin was uninjured, co-driver Yaroslav Fedorov hurt his foot taking avoiding action when brothers Jarek and Marcin Szeja went off and crashed into the stranded SRT Fabia causing further damage.

“Yaroslav hurt his foot when the car number 22 crashed into our car and he fell into a ditch when he tried to run,” Gryazin explained. “It’s really frustrating because the target was to finish. We were leading our category but we were not driving so fast, it was safety driving. It was a little mistake but there was no chance to save the car.”
