Hyundai driver Iván Ares celebrated winning the Spanish national title for the first time by revealing his desire to step up to the FIA European Rally Championship for 2018.
Ares and co-driver José Pintor secured the crown with two events remaining following their victory on Rallye Santander Cantabria earlier this month.

Afterwards, Ares told Motorlinea.es of his hopes for next season when graduation to the all-action ERC is a target. “I would love to do a programme in the ERC,” the Spaniard said.

The 32-year-old is no stranger to the ERC having placed fourth on Rally Islas Canarias earlier this season in his Hyundai New Generation i20 R5.

Surhayen Pernía, who challenged for ERC Junior Under 28 Championship honours on Rally Islas Canarias back in May, was also competing on Rallye Santander Cantabria in a Hyundai Canaries-supported i20 R5. Having led initially a late off ruled out a third consecutive podium.
