Maciej Woda, whose M-Sport Poland operation runs Kajetan Kajetanowicz's LOTOS Rally Team, has his say on the now two-time FIA European Rally Championship winner retaining his title.
Woda reckons 2016 "was definitely a more difficult season than last year", citing the pressure and expectation upon Kajetanowicz to defend his crown. Technical issues and some driving errors meant it wasn't a smooth campaign, but Woda feels Kajetanowicz handled these situations well.
"I think he dealt with it very well," he said. "You could see that he’s feeling the pressure but he’s trying not to show this pressure. He’s always trying to smile and be happy and very positive and sometimes things are not going very well and he’s still smiling."
Kajetanowicz is always quick to thank his team, and he called it "the best team in the world" when he clinched the title on Rally Liepāja. Woda says: "It is always a team effort and yes, there were a few things that I wasn’t happy about and maybe that’s why I feel like the season could be better, but there are so many things that influence the final result that obviously you cannot put your finger on one thing that could be better or that went wrong. Otherwise the team was working well from my perspective, and everybody was motivated for the whole season to win the championship."
