Hanyu on fire in Barcelona

Japan’s Olympic champion Yuzuru Hanyu produced the performance of the opening day of the Grand Prix Final in Barcelona when he broke his own points record in the men’s short programme.
Hanyu scored 110.95, topping his effort at last month’s NHK Trophy to lead world champion Javier Fernandez who is second on 91.52 points. Boyang Jin of China lies third with 86.95 points.
Earlier in the day Ksenia Stolbova and Fedor Klimov edged the pair’s short programme, ahead of Russian compatriots Yuko Kavaguti and Alexander Smirnov with an advantage of just 1.2 points.
Canadians Meagan Duhamel and Eric Radford came in third.
