Atletico Madrid and Real Madrid shared a rare goalless draw in the first derby at the Wanda Metropolitano in a result that will have delighted league leaders Barcelona.

The last time a LaLiga clash between the two capital clubs finished 0-0 was back in 2005, and since then only one of 39 meetings between the rivals in all competitions had failed to produce a goal - the 2014/15 Champions League quarter-final first leg.
But defences ruled the roost at Atletico's impressive new 68,000-capacity home ground, which provided an electric atmosphere to a match that failed to spark.

For those that can't be bothered to count, that's 55 shots in total and 27 since his solitary goal..."

Star man
Diego Godin: Defences were on top almost throughout at the Wanda Metropolitano and no-one epitomised that dominance more than Atletico centre-back Godin, who ensured the Rojiblancos' well-drilled backline kept Real's forwards firmly in check. Atletico have now kept seven clean sheets in LaLiga this season and the Uruguay international has played a big part in that.
Moment of the match
Angel Correa's early miss. Things could have turned out much differently had Correa made the most of his great chance in the third minute. A misplaced pass by Marcelo sparked an Atletico attack, but when the ball fell kindly to the unmarked Correa on the edge of the box he could not take advantage, with his dinked shot over Kiko Casilla going wide.
Stat of the match
The last time Atletico Madrid and Real Madrid shared a goalless draw in the league was 12 years ago. The previous time before that was in 1993. The match may have lacked excitement but the result is something of a collector's item.
