Bayern Munich's inflammatory statement following the sacking of Louis van Gaal in 2011 has been circulating on social media due to its apparently unerringly accurate portrayal of the ills currently affecting Manchester United.

A string of mediocre results allied to turgid performances has seen Van Gaal installed as hot favourite to be the next Premier League manager to be fired.
And fans have dug up an extraordinary statement made by one of Bayern's chief power brokers in 2011, shortly after Van Gaal was fired.
The Dutchman led Bayern to the Bundesliga and DFB Pokal double in his first season in charge in 2009, also getting them to the Champions League final in which they were beaten only by Pep Guardiola's Bayern Munich side at their peak.
But a less than a year later he was fired, with the club reportedly riven by internal strife and slipping down to third place in the Bundesliga.

At the time, club chairman Uli Hoeness said that the decision had been a "long time coming" and that there was "no alternative" but to sack the first Dutch manager to win the Bundesliga.
"Football should be enjoyable, but there has been nothing enjoyable about football at FC Bayern for a while now," said Honess.
"And to say that he had the players behind him was a myth...
"Problems were created which were totally unnecessary and which have ripped the club to pieces.
"Louis Van Gaal should consider what he has done."
Worrying words indeed for United fans.
