Goals from Thomas Muller, Joshua Kimmich and Mats Hummels gave Bayern Munich a comfortable 3-0 victory over Celtic at the Allianz Arena.
Bayern Munich were playing their first Champions League match since the return of Jupp Heynckes to the club, now in his fourth spell as manager.
James was dropped to the bench, and Arjen Robben joined Thomas Muller to support Robert Lewandowski in attack, and Celtic failed to properly mark them throughout.
Muller grabbed the first, rifling in a rebound, and the lead was soon doubled by Kimmich, unmarked for a header at the back post.

After the break, Hummels scored a simple third to secure the point for Bayern as they moved to make second spot in the group safe. Celtic remain on three points with three more games in the group left.

TALKING POINT

Heynckes has settled Bayern and given them a chance of Champions League success. A familiar face at the club, he has returned the players to a happy state, as Jerome Boateng said earlier in the week. The players were given plenty of space to attack by a disorganised Celtic, but they look far more assured than they had done under Carlo Ancelotti in their previous game against Paris Saint-Germain.

MAN OF THE MATCH

Arjen Robben (Bayern Munich): At 33, his time is coming to an end, and he will miss the 2018 World Cup following the Netherlands' failure to qualify. But his threat from the right wing is a constant in European football, and in a more ruthless mood he might have been even more threatening. Against Celtic, he had them pinned back in their box whenever he wanted.

PLAYER RATINGS

Bayern: Ulreich 6, Hummels 7, Alaba 6, Boateng 6, Kimmich 7, Rudy 6, Thiago 6, Coman 7, Robben 7, Muller 7, Lewandowski 7. Subs: James 6, Rafinha 6, Vidal 6.
Celtic: Gordon 6, Gamboa 5, Lustig 5, Boyata 5, Tierney 6, Brown 5, Ntcham 6, Armstrong 6, Roberts 6, Sinclair 6, Griffiths 5. Subs: Rogic 6, Dembele 6, Forrest 6.

KEY EVENTS

7' - PENALTY APPEAL - Bayern want a penalty. Lustig pulls down Lewandoski in the box, down the right hand side, and the referee ignores it. That's a generous decision.
17' - GOAL! Bayern 1-0 Celtic. Muller scores - That had been coming. Kimmich cuts in, and sends in a cross. It comes to Lewandowski, unmarked, and he sends a header towards the corner that Gordon beats away. Muller is on hand to rifle the ball into the net after the defenders' inaction.
29' - GOAL! Bayern 2-0 Celtic. Kimmich scores - Coman sprints past Gamboa and sends in a cross to the back post. Kimmich, like everyone else on the Bayern side, isn't marked and he can nod in at the back post.

51' - GOAL! Bayern 3-0 Celtic. Hummels scores - Robben's deflected shot wins a corner on the right. Robben takes the corner, it's met by Hummels to glance into the far corner easily.
61' - GAMBOA CLEARANCE - More dreadful marking. Robben heads towards goal to the far post, and Gamboa is on hand to head it away.
74' - ULREICH DOUBLE SAVE - Dembele sets up Sinclair, who lashes at goal against Ulreich. It bounces out to Rogic, and his effort is beaten away by the stand-in 'keeper.
