Brendan Rodgers wants Celtic to stay true to their footballing philosophy in Munich

The Hoops arrived in Munich on Tuesday ahead of their Champions League Group B tie against one of European football's traditional superpowers with some confidence after a 3-0 win in Anderlecht last month.

By some contrast, the Bundesliga side fired Carlo Ancelotti after their 3-0 loss to Paris St Germain in September but the return of Jupp Heynckes for the fourth time as manager re-energised the German side as they showed in the 5-0 win over Freiburg at the weekend.

Both Celtic and Bayern have three points after two Group B games but Rodgers knows how difficult a task faces the Scottish champions in the Allianz Arena.

However, the Northern Irishman, who has skipper Scott Brown and fellow midfielder Stuart Armstrong back from injury but centre-back Jozo Simunovic out with a hamstring problem, wants the Scottish champions to remain true to their footballing philosophy.

"They are one of the best teams in world football," he said. "You only need to look at their team-sheet and the quality of their players.

"For us, we understand and respect that, but our duty is to play how we play.

"It's not always easy when you play against these teams, but that's how we work - we like to attack and defend with aggression.

"I respect it will be a tough game for us but it's another game for us in our development as a squad, and away from home we have shown that development over the course of the last season.

"It's a big test for us but we look forward to it and relish it."
