Chile's Arturo Vidal 'arrested for drunk driving' after car crash

Chile midfielder Arturo Vidal was involved in a car crash on Tuesday and was taken to hospital with light injuries, local media reported.

Chilean state television showed pictures of Vidal's badly damaged red Ferrari and said the player had crashed his car just south of Santiago.
Police said he had been arrested for drunk driving following the crash on the outskirts of the city. He had suffered only "minor injuries", according to reports.

"Because he was driving under the influence of alcohol...(Vidal) is being held," said local Police chief Ricardo Gonzalez.
According to a report from AFP, Gonzalez refused to speak about how much alcohol was in the Juventus player's system.

Vidal, like the rest of the Chilean squad, had the afternoon off following their 3-3 draw with Mexico in the Copa America on Monday.
"Unfortunately I found myself involved in a traffic accident," he tweeted. "Luckily we are all well and quiet . Thanks x worry!"
Vidal scored twice in the Mexico match and is the leading scorer in the tournament with three goals.

Chile meet Bolivia in their final group match on Friday. Vidal scored the winner from the penalty spot in Chile's opening group match against Ecuador.
Vidal was expelled from a Chile training camp in 2011 after turning up late and was handed a 100,000 Euro fine by Italian champions Juventus earlier this season after apparently being involved in a brawl outside of a Turin nightclub.
