Jordi Alba and Neymar struck in extra time to clinch the Copa Del Rey for Barcelona, completing a domestic double for Luis Enrique’s side.
Sevilla played much of the contest with a man advantage following Javier Mascherano’s 36th-minute red card, but couldn’t make the most of the opportunity as the Catalans wore them down, with Ever Banega sent off himself in the dying moments of the second half.
Daniel Carrico was also shown red late on in extra-time as Sevilla ran out of steam following their midweek Europa League win over Liverpool.
Unai Emery’s side were the better team for much of the match, but couldn’t find the breakthrough against a stubborn Barca outfit.
Alba opened the scoring in extra time following a wonderful cutting pass from Lionel Messi, with Neymar adding the finishing touch with a second goal just moments before full-time.

After last season’s treble, Enrique now has a double to go with his collection.

TALKING POINT

Did Luis Suarez’s injury actually help Barcelona overcome Sevilla?
When the 59-goal striker broke down with a hamstring injury midway through the second half, fortune really looked to be against Barcelona. He was replaced by Rafinha, but as it turned out that change actually looked to help the Catalans, giving them more presence in midfield. Inadvertently, luck might have been on Barca’s side when Suarez collapsed in a crumpled heap on the turf.

MAN OF THE MATCH

Gerard Pique
Jordi Alba and Neymar found the goals to clinch the Copa del Rey for Barcelona, but the match was won earlier in the match when the Catalans held out under intense pressure from Sevilla following Javier Mascherano’s red card. It was at this time that Gerard Pique truly proved his worth, and defended everything that was thrown at him. Were it not for him Barca likely wouldn’t have made it to extra-time.

KEY MOMENTS

7’ CLOSE TO WRIGGLING THROUGH! Gameiro runs at the Barcelona backline for the first time this evening, but Mascherano boots clear just as the French striker looked to have broken through.
11’ WHAT A CHANCE FOR SUAREZ! Great play from Iniesta to flip the ball over the defender, but the Barcelona striker pulls his half volley just wide of the near post. Should have done better.
19’ COKE SHOULD HAVE HIT THE TARGET! Vitolo did so well to get to the byline and square back for his team-mate, but Coke got his angles all wrong and skewed his shot well wide.
26’ GREAT SAVE FROM TER STEGEN! A few moments ago the Barcelona keeper had to be alert to stop Escudero from a tight angle. Was the Sevilla man really shooting from there?
33’ ALVES FIZZES A SHOT JUST WIDE! The Barcelona right back receives the ball about 25 yards out and lines up the effort, but his strike flashes just past Rico's right hand post.
39’ RED CARD! Javier Mascherano (Barcelona). The Catalans are down to 10 men! Mascherano brought down Gameiro as the last man. That was a simple decision for the referee to make.
41’ EXCELLENT SAVE FROM TER STEGEN! Banega sends a wonderful freekick from the edge of the box towards the top corner, but the Barcelona keeper tips it just over the crossbar!
45’ PIQUE PERHAPS SHOULD HAVE SCORED! The Barcelona centre-back gets a run on everyone from a corner kick, but he can only head over the bar. Should he have done better?
52’ OFF THE POST! How did that not go in? Banega lines up the strike from 20 yards, but it takes the slightest of touches off Pique and hits the woodwork! Ter Stegen was beaten by that.
58’ SUAREZ DOWN INJURED! The Barcelona striker has hit the turf and it looks like he has a hamstring injury here. The Catalans are going to have to make a change here. Big blow.

69’ WHAT A CHANCE FOR SEVILLA! A cross fell to Krywochiak about 18 yards out, but Busquets gets his foot to the ball to deflect the effort wide of the target. That was a huge opportunity!
75’ TER STEGEN FOUND HIMSELF IN TROUBLE! Escudero's cross into the box looked to be a poor one, but it dipped wickedly and the goalkeeper was forced to palm it away from goal.
79’ RICO MAKES THE STOP FROM MESSI! The Barcelona number 10 lines up the free-kick from the edge of the box, but in truth his shot was rather tame and the keeper makes the stop.
81’ MESSI NEEDED TO MAKE A BETTER PASS! Barcelona broke on the rapid counter attack, but Messi's pass through to Mathieu (!) was cut out before it could reach the surging defender.
86’ MASSIVE CALLS FOR A SEVILLA PENALY! Iborra believes he was dragged to the ground by Alves at the back post as a cross came into the box, but the referee waves play on.
93’ RED CARD! Ever Banega (Sevilla). Sevilla are also down to 10 men now! Banega brings down Neymar on the edge of the area as the last man and he sees red. It's 10 v 10!
94’ RICO TIPS THE FREE-KICK OVER THE BAR! Messi attempted a strange little chipped freekick from the edge of the box and the Sevilla keeper makes the comfortable save to keep it goalless.
97’ GOAL! Barcelona 1-0 Sevilla: We have a breakthrough in extra time! Barcelona have the lead! Messi played a wonderful ball in behind for Alba, with the left back squeezing a finish inside the far post.
105’ RICO MAKES THE NEAR POST SAVE! Messi zips in a wicked freekick from a tight angle and the Sevilla goalkeeper needs to scramble across to make the save at his near post.
106’ MASSIVE SAVE FROM RICO! That save keeps Sevilla in the contest for a bit longer. Pique had a free header at the back post, but the goalkeeper make the reflex stop over the bar.
119’ RICO MAKES THE SAVE FROM NEYMAR! Iniesta clips a great ball to the back post for the run of the Brazilian forward, but he can't get enough power in his header to beat the Sevilla keeper.
121’ RED CARD: Daniel Carrico (Sevilla). There's a third red card of this match, with Carrico seeing a second yellow card for a tackle. However, he looked to win the ball with his challenge.
122’ GOAL! Barcelona 2-0 Sevilla: And there's the goal to secure it! Messi pokes through a neat little pass for Neymar, who finishes low into the bottom corner across goal. This will be Barcelona's Copa.
