SERIE A: All this weekend's matches and kick-off times!
The game pitted Milan's smooth passing game -- so
effectively deployed in Serie A this season -- against Perugia's
speedy counter-attacks, but neither side found the cutting edge
that gave them quarter-final wins against Chievo and Juventus
respectively.
Serie A leaders Milan dominated the early minutes of the
encounter and came close to taking the lead in the eighth minute
when a close-range shot by Danish international striker Jon Dahl
Tomasson was smothered by Perugia keeper Zeljko Kalac.
As the game wore on, however, the home side grew in
confidence with Greek striker Zisis Vryzas heading narrowly over
the bar.
Perugia wasted their best chance to win the match nine
minutes after the interval. Striker Fabrizio Miccoli created
space down the left and slid the ball dangerously across the
area, only for midfielder Massimiliano Fusani to volley the ball
inches over the bar.
Milan, meanwhile, were limited to long range shots on goal
and in the final ten minutes Milan coach Carlo Ancelotti brought
on striker Andriy Shevchenko in an attempt to give his attack a
cutting edge.
The two sides now meet in the league on Sunday, before the return leg of the Coppa Italia at the San Siro in a month's time.
