Vicente del Bosque has warned that Spain “will take action” if David de Gea is found to not be in a fit state to represent the country at Euro 2016.
De Gea’s hopes of starting Spain’s European Championship opener against Czech Republic on Monday may have been harmed by recent allegations in the Spanish media, and Del Bosque made it clear he would pay close attention to the Manchester United goalkeeper’s demeanour.
“We’ve arrived in good condition despite the remoteness of our camp. We’re ready to start the tournament,” the coach said at a press conference. “I’ll communicate the decision of the goalkeeper to everyone at the same time. These are situations that have been talked about all year. “The final decision will be made on Monday. I don’t think that’ll add pressure on the goalkeepers.
“If we see that [the De Gea scandal] undermines the capabilities of the player, we’ll take action. If that isn’t the case then we’ll act like we would without any problems.
“I haven’t noticed much difference from when we played the World Cup in Brazil. We trained well there, and in that sense there’s been no difference in our preparation."
