Netherlands’ hopes of reaching Euro 2016 were dealt another huge blow, with Turkey claiming a momentous 3-0 win to revive their own chances of making the tournament.
Danny Blind suffered defeat to Iceland in his first game as Holland boss earlier this week, and was handed another dismal result as Fatih Terim’s side scored three without reply at the Konya Torku Arena.
While these two nations were expected to be fighting for top spot in Group A when the draw was made, this match was about survival - with both teams struggling to make the play-offs. But with victory Turkey now hold the advantage in the race to finish third behind Iceland and Czech Republic.

Netherlands dominated much of the possession - particularly in the second half - but the likes of Memphis Depay, Wesley Sneijder and Robin Van Persie failed to find a breakthrough, as Turkey held firm to see out a momentous win.

KEY EVENTS

8’ GOAL! Turkey 1 Netherlands 0: Turkey have the goal they so desperately needed! The Dutch defence is split down the middle and Ozyakup chips an excellent finish into the net.
17’ HUGE CHANCE FOR NETHERLANDS! Van Persie plays a great little ball into Narsingh, who has a one-on-one situation from a tight angle. But the keeper comes out to make the stop.
28’ SNEIJDER SHOOTS AT GOAL! Great play from Netherlands, with Memphis playing a low pass in to the feet of Van Persie, who lays it off to Sneijder, but his deflected strike ends up in the arms of Babacan.

85’ GOAL! Turkey 3 Netherlands 0: And there's the third goal, and there's the three points for Turkey. Yilmaz turns on the ball inside the box and fires a deflected shot in to the roof of the net.

KEY STATS

Netherlands could miss the European Championships for the first time since 1984.
Before tonight Netherlands had not lost by three or more goals in a non-friendly since Euro 96.

TALKING POINT

What now for Danny Blind and the Dutch?
The dismissal of Guus Hiddink as manager hasn’t really changed much for Netherlands - in fact, if anything it has made things worse. Danny Blind has now suffered dismal defeats in both of his first two games in charge of the national team and will now face difficult questions over his stewardship of Oranje. Holland can only hope for a play-off place now, but that might even prove too much of a tall order for them.

MAN OF THE MATCH

Burak Yilmaz
The Galatasaray striker spent much of the second half isolated as he chased the Dutch possession, but he applied the final touch when the chance came to secure victory for his team. However, Yilmaz did more than just score the third goal. He was essential in giving Turkey a presence up front and unsettling a shaky Netherlands defensive line, linking up the play between the hosts’ attacking midfielder. It was the perfect frontman performance.
