- 1st Half
Southampton are in their usual red and white stripes, while Inter are in their usual blue and black kit.
Southampton, who are unbeaten in their previous seven matches, were in the League One relegation zone just seven years ago, and almost £30m in debt, while Inter were on their way to claiming a fifth consecutive Serie A title.
7,000 Southampton fans have made the trip to Milan to watch their team tonight.
"It's important to stay calm. Perhaps it's a big occasion for Inter to react as they need points but for us it's the same thing," Puel said. "They have good players and a good team to have a good reaction and we approach this game with calm and we prepare this game with all our possibilities. This is most important."
Southampton sit joint top of Group K after beating Sparta Prague at home on matchday one and that goalless draw with Hapoel Be'er Sheva in Israel on 29 September. The Saints will go seven points clear of Inter in the group with victory in Milan tonight, and manager Claude Puel accepts that the Serie A side will need to make the early running.
The club is also in disarray off the field, with some Inter ultras clashing with captain Mauro Icardi after the Argentine made some inflammatory comments about the supporters in his autobiography. "This situation is not good for the team, the fans or the club," De Boer said. "In the future we need to avoid similar things, which lead to distractions from the game. Everyone must learn how to avoid these things in future, not just Icardi. It’s very important for me that the players and coaching staff remain focused on the match. Similarly Icardi must take on board what happened, because he has responsibilities as a captain."
Inter defender Davide Santon thinks his side have struggled in the Europa League because of a failure of "attitude". "I think we have a strong squad this season, but in a lot of games we’ve lacked the right attitude. In the Europe League we’ve conceded goals, not because of the quality of the players but because we didn’t go onto the pitch with the right attitude, and that can’t happen," the former Newcastle defender said.
Inter are currently 11th in Serie A after three defeats from their opening eight games, and lie bottom of Europa League Group K following their San Siro defeat to Hapoel Be'er Sheva on matchday one and the 3-1 defeat to Sparta Prague in the Czech capital two weeks later.
Andrea Ranocchia is suspended following his red card in Prague, while Felipe Melo is injured. Eder comes into a three-man attack, alongside skipper Mauro Icardi and Antonio Candreva, with Argentina international Ever Banega dropping out.
Inter Milan manager Frank de Boer has made six changes from the side that started the 3-1 defeat to Sparta Prague at Letna Stadion on 29 September. Joao Mario, Gabigol, Geoffrey Kondogbia and Stevan Jovetic are all unavailable for the Europa League under Financial Fair Play regulations, but midfielder Marcelo Brozovic makes his first start since the embarrassing 2-0 home defeat to Hapoel Be'er Sheva on 15 September.
Southampton manager Claude Puel has made four changes to the side that started the 0-0 draw with Hapoel Be'er Sheva in Israel in the Saints' last European fixture on 29 September. Matt Targett is injured, and with Cedric Soares, Jeremy Pied, Ryan Bertrand also absent, 21-year-old Sam McQueen make his first start for the club at left-back, four days after making his first Premier League appearance as a substitute in the 3-1 win over Burnley on Sunday. Pierre-Emile Hojberg replaces Jordy Clasie in midfield, while Dusan Tadic and Jay Rodriguez come in for Nathan Redmond and Jake Hesketh.
