More misery for Liverpool as Wolves spring huge shock at Anfield

Liverpool's awful January continued as they were humbled at home in the fourth round of the FA Cup by Championship side Wolves.

Fans had barely settled into their seats before Richard Stearman headed home Helder Costa’s free kick and things got worse for Liverpool just before the break, Andreas Weimann latching onto Costa’s pass before beating Loris Karius and slotting the ball into an empty net.

Liverpool failed to muster a shot on the Wolves goal in the opening half but improved marginally after the introduction of Philippe Coutinho and Daniel Sturridge. And it was the latter who gave Liverpool hope, heading across goal for Divock Origi to slam home with minutes remaining.

A Liverpool equaliser would have been harsh on Wolves, however, and Paul Lambert’s side held out to reach the FA Cup fifth round for the first time since 2008.

Jurgen Klopp's side have now lost three consecutive home games across all competitions for the first time since October 2012.

Liverpool’s defensive woes continue. Jurgen Klopp must be alarmed by this dip in form in January and there’s not much time left to strengthen before the transfer window closes.

41’ – GOAL! Liverpool 0-2 Wolverhampton Wanderers: A huge story developing as Wolves catch Liverpool on the break. Costa plays in Weimann who nips it past Karius and steers it into an empty net.

82’ – CHANCE WOLVES! Karius forced to make a great save from Bodvarsson, who was probably offside. The flag stayed down, though.

86’ – GOAL! Liverpool 1-2 Wolverhampton Wanderers: Sturridge heads across goal for Origi to slam home and give Liverpool hope.

87’ – CHANCE LIVERPOOL! Liverpool force another corner and Burgoyne is forced to save from Origi!

89’ – CHANCE WOLVES! A great run from Bodvarsson and he cuts inside and gets his shot away and it takes a fantastic block to keep it from sneaking in with Karius beaten!
