N’Golo Kante scored a stunning goal as Chelsea reached the semi-finals of the FA Cup with a 1-0 win over ten-man Manchester United in a bad-tempered game.
The turning point came when Ander Herrera was dismissed in the first half after being shown two yellow cards for fouls on Eden Hazard, who earlier forced David de Gea into a world-class save.
Antonio Conte’s side capitalised on their one-man advantage in the second period with Kante rifling the ball into the bottom corner from distance.

But the game was marred by tempers flaring with Diego Costa and Marcos Rojo involved in a string of confrontations while Conte clashed with Jose Mourinho on the touchline over a late challenge from Antonio Valencia on Marcos Alonso.
Marcus Rashford, who was surprisingly named in the starting line-up having had an illness, forced Thibaut Courtois into a good save for United’s best chance.
But the Blues hung on to make it another forgettable return to Stamford Bridge for Mourinho following the 4-0 defeat in the Premier League in October.

TALKING POINT

Did Ander Herrera deserve to be sent off? He can have few arguments with his first booking for barging into Eden Hazard and obstructing him. His second yellow was for clipping the Belgian playmaker was more debatable, although United's players had been warned by referee Michael Oliver for their over enthusiastic challenges. The Spaniard often plays on the edge but his temperament proved to be his downfall.
