Tottenham Hotspur suffered a second International Champions Cup defeat after Diego Godin’s goal gave Atletico Madrid a 1-0 victory at the MCG.
Godin was on hand to flick home at the far post from a free-kick late in the first half, Anton Walkes heading into his path.
The result was a harsh one on Spurs, who saw both Josh Onomah and Erik Lamela rattling the woodwork in the opening half and Jan Oblak in inspired form between the Atleti sticks.
Despite defeat, Spurs looked far sharper and more threatening than they did in defeat to Juventus, several youngsters including the likes of Walkes, Cameron Carter-Vickers, Harry Winks and Marcus Edwards giving Mauricio Pochettino encouragement for the future.

TALKING POINT

Encouragement for Spurs despite loss. Only the woodwork and Jan Oblak denied Spurs a draw at the very least, but they can take some credit from the performance, with youngsters stepping up to the plate against quality opposition.

MAN OF THE MATCH

Jan Oblak (Atletico Madrid) After an early wobble, the keeper denied both Vincent Janssen and Ryan Mason with two world class saves.
