Kiko Casilla scored the winning penalty for his new side to give Real Madrid a 10-9 victory on penalties over AC Milan.
Both teams struggled for rhythm in the heat and humidity of Shanghai, and Real Madrid in particular found it difficult to create any clear-cut chances. M'Baye Niang had the best chances of the first half, with two efforts which brought smart stops from Keylor Navas in goal.
Real Madrid started without James Rodriguez, but Gareth Bale, Cristiano Ronado and Karim Benzema offered little themselves.

In the second half, the large number of substitutions disrupted the play, but Real Madrid improved slightly, and Bale and Ronaldo both went close with headers from Isco crosses. For Milan, a Carlos Bacca volley forced Kiko Casilla into a fine save, and Bacca then wasted an excellent one-on-one chance with 10 minutes remaining.
16-year-old goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma took the 22nd penalty of the shootout, with the scores at 10-9, and his effort was saved by Kiko Casilla to finally secure victory for Real Madrid.

TALKING POINT
Both sides need plenty more practice games before the season starts. Neither side will be worried by their showing, with a lack of fitness and the number of substitutions made throughout the match, but the quality of performances was severely below what will be needed when their respective seasons begin.
MAN OF THE MATCH
Lucas Vazquez (Real Madrid): Vazquez has returned from a season on loan at Espanyol, and may have the chance to make an impact this season as Real Madrid struggle to find homegrown players of suitable quality. His energy and short passing was the most effective part of Real Madrid's first half performance, and this may be useful against teams who sit back against them in La Liga.
