Atletico Madrid captain Gabi has admitted the club will forever be scarred by their two Champions League final defeats to cross-town rivals Real.

Atletico Madrid captain Gabi has admitted the club will forever be scarred by their two Champions League final defeats to cross-town rivals Real.

Los Rojiblancos reached the final last season, and in 2013-14, only to suffer heartbreaking derby defeats.

"That does not go. They are scars that are left in life," Gabi told AS ahead of the club's match away to Rostov on Wednesday night.

"But we will keep trying to do it and keep exciting people. We want to go as far as possible and try to win."

Atletico boss Diego Simeone's fine stint in the job has brought success elsewhere, with the 2011-12 Europa League, 2012-13 Copa del Rey and 2013-14 LaLiga titles won.

Gabi has been a part of it all and, after signing a new deal until 2018 earlier this month, has emphasised the hunger for further success.

Unbeaten Atletico are top of LaLiga, with their previous outing a 7-1 home thrashing of Granada on Saturday.

Asked if he would prefer to win that title or the Champions League, Gabi said: "I'll take the Champions League, but we do not rule out anything. We want to win everything.

"We are going to win all the titles we can. The league is not won in November, the titles are won after Christmas and we will fight for them.

"We have earned this. We have worked hard to be among the best."

Atletico have made the best start possible to the new Champions League campaign, winning both their Group D encounters away at PSV Eindhoven and then at home against Bayern Munich.

Tournament debutants Rostov have opened the group with a 5-0 loss at Bayern and then a 2-2 home draw with PSV.

Boss Ivan Daniliants admits his players are finding the demands on them this season hard.

Daniliants, quoted on Rostov's official website on Tuesday, said: "This period (between Saturday's 1-0 league loss at Spartak Moscow and the Atletico match) is not sufficient to fully recover.

"Our guys have never played in such a busy time, it's hard.

"Getting ready for the match, I hope that tomorrow we will be in such a state that will allow us to play at a high level."
